Hole 12, Par 3

$250.00
Sold Out

This burl bowl is the first bowl turned from a large, 90+ lb piece of burl that was salvaged from a large maple tree that unfortunately came down in a storm at a local golf course.

This stunner measures 16” diameter x 5” tall.

We recommend this bowl as a display piece only.

ABOUT BURL: Have you ever looked up at a tree in your yard, at a park or along a trail and seen a bump that somewhat resembles a wart?

That's a burl!

Don't panic, although it is a bit unsightly, there's nothing wrong with the tree!

Burls can form on all types of trees. These callous tissues usually grow when a tree is undergoing some sort of stress, whether it be a virus, injury or infection. Like humans form scabs, scars and callouses, trees do the same, thus burls.

Because burls tend to grow so quickly to protect the tree, the grain pattern found in them is very interesting; contorted, twisted and erratic - like a ball of yarn. It's why woodworking nerds like us love them so much because the grain pattern is unlike any other and it produces beautiful pieces!
